Orlando is celebrating 100 years of its swan boats at Lake Eola Park this week with the unveiling of a special golden swan boat. Because they can. Mayor Buddy Dyer and city officials held a brief ceremony earlier today to acknowledge the special anniversary and reveal the new boat to an assembled crowd.
In case you didn’t do the math, the swan boats were first introduced in the 1920s and have since become a steady feature of the lake, offering visitors a simple way to experience the park and skyline from the water and sneak away for a quick snog and a spliff. According to the city, millions of riders have used the boats over the past century, making them one of Orlando’s longest-running recreational amenities.
Check it out in this cute video below.
Swan boats are available for rental 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and cost $15 for a 30-minute window. Which is more than enough, because girl, they are tough to paddle. Click HERE for rental information.
