A proposed event center just northwest of Camping World Stadium goes before Orlando’s Municipal Planning Board Tuesday, with city staff recommending approval.
The project would demolish the former Tabernacle of Praise Ministry building at 2019 W. Church Street [GMap] and build a 140,000 SF multi-purpose event center in its place. The 3.9-acre site takes up a full block bounded by Church Street, Pine Street, Dollins Avenue and Tampa Avenue, across from Lake Lorna Doone Park. The city bought the properties, declared them blighted and added them to the Downtown CRA boundary in 2026 to help facilitate their development faster.
Plans for the new building are organized around a central field house designed to host civic events and sports activities, with a main lobby, concession areas, flexible locker rooms and a viewing mezzanine.
The project is part of a larger $400 million round of upgrades at Camping World Stadium funded through Orange County’s tourist development tax. The event center itself carries an estimated $61 million price tag.
Also, according to city paperwork, because the event center isn’t projected to generate 1,000 average daily vehicle trips, the city says it won’t require a full Transportation Impact Analysis for the project. Day-to-day traffic impact is expected to be minor, and no road improvements are planned to accommodate the building.
Vehicle access will run through a small parking lot off Dollins Avenue with nine spaces, mainly for staff, vendors, and loading. The site plan leans on nearby Camping World Stadium lots to handle parking for larger events. As a condition of approval, event organizers will have to submit a traffic circulation and parking plan for city review before each event.
If approved Tuesday, the project moves to replatting and building and engineering permits.
