
The Historical Society of Central Florida is hiring a Collections Assistant for a temporary project at the Wells’Built Museum of African American History & Culture (Website). The part-time, on-call position runs from June 2026 through May 2027 and focuses on stabilising and preserving the museum’s collection of items related to Orlando’s African American community.
Core responsibilities include conducting an archival appraisal of the collection, documenting condition and preservation risks, identifying materials that need immediate rehousing with museum-grade archival supplies, developing a collection policy and digitisation plan, and collaborating with collections staff at the Orange County Regional History Center and Wells’Built Museum.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in museum studies, public history, history, library sciences, or a closely related field, plus one year of museum registration or collections experience or equivalent combined education and work experience. Candidates must have knowledge of collection processing workflows and current archival standards, along with strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
The position is estimated at 30 hours per week for a total of 1,500 project hours. Primary work location is Wells’Built Museum at 511 West South Street [GMap] in the Parramore district.
Pay is $18 per hour. Candidates must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and will work in a combination of office and museum settings.
