Lake Eola Park just added a Pride-themed swan boat to its fleet on June 4 when District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan hosted a special unveiling at the boat launch downtown.
Lake Eola’s swan boats first launched on December 1, 1925, as the first two boats carried up to two dozen passengers each around the lake. The rainbow swan boat continues a tradition of special edition vessels, like from last November when the city unveiled a golden swan boat to commemorate the fleet’s centennial milestone.
The swan boat addition comes as the city continues to address challenges at the lake ahead of its pending renovations. The city has been rehoming its city-owned swans from the park following an avian flu outbreak, pausing the century-old program that has been central to Lake Eola’s identity due to the high costs of running it according to FWC standards. More on that soon.
