Visit Orlando will release its first destination cookbook later this year, highlighting the city’s growing and diverse food scene, and tapping into that thirsty/hungry food and beverage tourism demographic.
The book, titled Orlando’s Kitchens: Recipes and Stories From Our Neighborhoods, features more than 60 recipes from local chefs, MICHELIN-recognized restaurants, and well-known community figures, along with stories that showcase Orlando’s neighborhoods and culinary culture.
“This project is a true celebration of Orlando’s culinary identity,” said Casandra Matej, president and CEO of Visit Orlando. “For over 20 years, we’ve worked to raise awareness of our food community, from MICHELIN recognition to James Beard Awards. With this cookbook, we’re highlighting the neighborhoods and chefs that make our city so unique.”
The book is written by Pam Brandon (Instagram), an award-winning author and founding editor of Edible Orlando magazine (RIP), who has published more than two dozen Disney cookbooks and several Florida-focused titles. In addition to recipes, the book will feature over 100 dining experience highlights from the region.
Brandon described the project as a collective effort by restaurants, artisans, and farmers. Recipes include family dishes like Abuela’s Salsa from Tamale Co., porchetta from Crocante, and a vintage cookie recipe from Nikki’s Place.
The cookbook is organized by district, with illustrated neighborhood maps by local artist Paige Fischer (Instagram). The cover features chefs Wendy Lopez of Reyes Mezcaleria and Lordfer Lalicon of Kaya, along with dishes from Chayote Barrio Kitchen and Bull & Bear.
Orlando’s Kitchens will be available for purchase before the end of the year. Details on how to buy the cookbook will be announced soon.
