David LaChapelle Charli XCX: Biting The Hand 2024
The Orlando Museum of Art (Website) will present David LaChapelle: As the World Turns, the largest U.S. museum retrospective ever dedicated to his work, opening January 31, 2026. According to a release we received yesterday, the exhibition will feature more than 100 works spanning LaChapelle’s career, including early religious pieces, fashion editorials, celebrity portraits, and recent large-scale compositions focused on spirituality, environmental themes, and cultural commentary.
LaChapelle’s career began in 1980s New York, where his first gallery show led Andy Warhol to hire him at Interview magazine. He went on to become one of the most published photographers in the world, producing books like LaChapelle Land, Hotel LaChapelle, Heaven to Hell, Lost & Found, and Good News. His work includes portraits of well-known figures, including Amy Winehouse, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Hillary Clinton, and Muhammad Ali.
The exhibition will also debut a major new artwork inspired by classical fresco techniques, created with support from Deodato Arte (Website) in Italy. Along with photographs, the exhibition will include hand-painted negatives, film-based pieces, and behind-the-scenes material that highlight his creative process.
An opening reception will take place on January 30 and will offer an advance look at the exhibition. The museum will also host programs during the exhibition’s run, including drawing classes, fashion-photography workshops, and a lecture and book signing with LaChapelle.
David LaChapelle: As the World Turns will be on view from January 31 through May 3, 2026.
