GOAA STAFF, CONTRACTORS, AND VIRGIN ATLANTIC CREW MEMBERS CELEBRATING OPENING OF TERMINAL C'S NEW WING EXPANSION
Orlando International Airport has opened a new wing at Terminal C, adding five new gates and relocating Virgin Atlantic from Terminal A as part of a $462 million expansion.
Airport CEO Lance Lyttle and Virgin Atlantic employees marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting Tuesday (where they snapped the above photo). The new gates, numbered 250 through 254, were originally part of Terminal C’s early development plan but were deferred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The gates are designed as Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) gates, the same configuration used elsewhere in Terminal C, allowing each gate to accommodate up to eight narrow-body or four wide-body aircraft, and multiple airlines will be able to use the gates for both domestic and international service.
The expansion increases Terminal C’s capacity to handle 10 to 12 million passengers annually and is expected to reduce congestion at checkpoints, concessions, and baggage claim in Terminals A and B (here’s hoping). MCO handled nearly 58 million passengers in 2025.
“This new wing is an important step in our vision to deliver the very best experience for every guest who travels through Orlando International Airport,” said Lyttle. “By expanding Terminal C and welcoming Virgin Atlantic to its new home, we are adding capacity, improving flexibility, and creating a more balanced flow of passengers across all terminals.”
The project was funded in part by the FAA and the Florida Department of Transportation and was designed and built by HNTB, Jacobs, and Hensel Phelps.
The expansion also sets the stage for planned renovations in Terminals A and B, including updated restrooms across all four airsides and refreshed interiors at Airsides 1 and 3.
Terminal C opened in 2022 and is the only airport terminal in the United States connected to intercity passenger rail service.
Passengers flying Virgin Atlantic should verify terminal and transportation details before arriving at the airport.
