Upper Ocklawaha River’s Burrell Lock reopening just in time for the Fourth of July

Boaters heading out on the Upper Ocklawaha River this Fourth of July weekend will have clear passage as Burrell Lock is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, July 2, following a maintenance closure.

The St. Johns River Water Management District says the lock will reopen ahead of the holiday weekend while minor maintenance repairs continue, following what the agency describes as “extensive rehabilitation work.” The closure was part of the district’s ongoing maintenance program for its waterway systems.

Commissioned in 1957 and located in Lake County, Burrell Lock connects Lake Eustis and Lake Griffin and also assists in regional flood control as well as recreational boating access.
