The City of Orlando will host its 25th annual Bike to Work Day on Thursday, March 5. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. at Festival Park, and Mayor Buddy Dyer is scheduled to lead the group ride at 8 a.m., but as past attendees know, sometimes he gets called away.
The free event features a 4-mile ride through downtown Orlando, with this year’s route starting at Festival Park at 2911 E. Robinson Street [GMap] and ending at Orlando City Hall at 400 S. Orange Avenue [GMap] – which is why I’ve always called it “Bike (the mayor) to Work Day,” because after you’ve escorted him (if he shows up) to city hall, you’re on your own to get to your own office building.
A limited number of e-bikes will be available for participants who do not own bikes. Bird and Lime bicycles and Veo seated scooters will be provided at no charge. Participants must download the apps and complete the necessary waivers ahead of the event in order to participate. Free helmets and safety gear will be distributed while supplies last. Helmet fittings will also be available.
Free parking is available in the grassy area of Festival Park, accessible via the Livingston Street entrance. Vehicles may remain parked there throughout the day.
A pre-event guided ride from City Hall to Festival Park leaves at 7:15 a.m. from the Northbound Church Street SunRail station. A post-event guided ride back to Festival Park leaves at 9:15 a.m. from the Tower of Light (The Pineapple) at City Hall Plaza.
LYNX bus routes 6, 13, 51, and 104 serve the Colonial Plaza SuperStop near Festival Park. SunRail passengers can disembark at LYNX Central Station for a 2.4-mile ride to Festival Park.
