Orlando International Airport opened its new Flybrary today, a reading nook for children in Terminal C. It’s the first of three Family Zones planned for the airport to open throughout the year.
The space is located past security on Level 2 near Gate 240. Design features include bookshelves shaped like trees, tree stump stools, and carpet with water and plant patterns that reference Central Florida’s landscape, and a restored vintage Lake Eola swan boat. The boat is named after Billy the Swan, one of the first swans at Lake Eola, who became known for aggressive behavior toward park visitors.
“As young readers travel through our airport, the Flybrary invites them to take flight with new adventures,” said Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Orlando International Airport has made Community a foundational pillar, and we believe a good community partner honors stakeholders by providing new and exciting spaces to explore and learn.”
The concept came from MCO’s Comfort Team and is part of the airport’s effort to improve passenger amenities. “This project helps to improve the comfort level of our guests and allows them to experience Lake Eola’s popular swan boats in a different way,” said Chief Customer Experience Officer Tawana Allen.
The Flybrary is open during regular Terminal C hours. Non-travelers can access it with an Experience MCO Visitor Pass, available at flymco.com/experience-mco-visitor-pass-program.
