The Orange County Library System (Website) will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth with a lineup of ten public events this fall at the Orlando Public Library in downtown Orlando.
On September 9, the library will host a Jane Austen Literary Genius Tea Talk, a discussion exploring Austen’s work and influence, accompanied by a tea service. The hour-long event will start at 1 p.m. and will take place in the Learning Cube on the second floor. A Jane Austen Tea Talk: Literary Exchange is scheduled for 4 p.m. on September 24, during which participants will be invited to listen to letters to and from the famous writer over tea.
On October 19, visitors can take part in a Jane Austen Sensory Tour, designed to engage all five senses through readings, music, and interactive elements related to her life and novels. The sensory tour event is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m.
The series concludes on December 13, Austen’s actual birthday, with a 250th Anniversary Birthday Celebration featuring refreshments and opportunities to reflect on her literary legacy. Yes, there will be cake, and costumes are encouraged. The hour-long party will kick off at 3 p.m.
