Nick Nesta won the Apopka mayoral runoff on Tuesday, April 14, defeating Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore in a landslide; 61.94% to 38.06%. Voter turnout exceeded 20%, roughly double what was projected for a municipal runoff, which is kind of sad when you think about it.
Nesta, a 36-year-old realtor and sitting city commissioner, ran as an anti-establishment candidate focused on residents, fiscal accountability, and restructuring how city government operates.
Nesta will be sworn in as mayor on April 28 alongside two newly elected commissioners. Moore, who had never lost a race before Tuesday, said she looks forward to taking a break after a long year.
