Edward “Eddie” Cole, 67, passed away on Saturday, December 20, the Town of Eatonville announced on its Facebook page, where Cole served as mayor from 2016 to 2022. Town officials said his legacy will “forever be etched” into the community, celebrating his commitment to progress, compassion, and service.
In addition to his time as mayor, Cole served on the Eatonville Town Council and held the role of Chief Administrative Officer for the town, helping guide policy and development for the community. Beyond municipal government, he worked closely with young people as the executive director of Every Kid Outreach, a nonprofit supporting middle and high school students across Eatonville and Orange County, fostering leadership and opportunity for youth.
Cole was also deeply involved in athletics and mentorship. He spent more than 30 years as an assistant coach of women’s basketball at Rollins College. Rollins coach Glenn Wilkes Jr. recalled Cole’s acts of kindness, like having players sign thank-you cards and his plans to help the homeless at Christmas, as reflections of his generous spirit. Wilkes said in a statement shared by Rollins College, “He was an angel on earth,” and highlighted Cole’s commitment to others that extended far beyond sports.
Cole also served for more than a decade as team chaplain for the Orlando Magic, offering support and guidance to athletes and staff throughout NBA seasons.
Friends and colleagues remembered Cole for his quiet generosity and dedication to lifting others up, whether through public service, coaching, or personal acts of kindness. Details of memorial services and tributes are expected to be shared by family and local organizations as they honor his life and legacy.
