SunRail to add late(r)-night trains in new service expansion

SunRail is preparing to roll out an expansion of its operating hours with a new 42-train schedule designed to accommodate late(r)-night riders across Central Florida. The plan, presented to the Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission this week, aims to extend service into the evening for the first time (long-term) since the system launched in 2014.

The expanded schedule adds several northbound and southbound trains after 10 p.m., addressing one of the most frequent requests from riders (another being weekend service). Under the proposed changes, the final northbound train would leave Poinciana at 9:45 p.m., while the last southbound train from DeLand would depart at 9:56 p.m.

Now imagine the impact if they could offer trains for people leaving the bars after midnight, when downtown happens to get the most traffic, outside of rush hour.
