A new exhibit exploring the science behind extreme sports opened Saturday at Orlando Science Center (Website), inviting visitors to try their hand at rock climbing, virtual flight, and more.
Orlando Science Center is located at 777 E. Princeton Street [GMap] in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park. Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits, presented by Nemours Children’s Health, opened to OSC members at 10 a.m. with a preview before opening to the general public at noon.
The exhibit is organized into five zones exploring different environments and types of extereme sports that happen there, ranging from virtual flight, real rock walls, an off-road bike path, a balance-testing high line, and a parkour course. Visitors can also pilot a simulated wingsuit or race through a virtual course. The exhibit is built around the psychology and physical demands behind adventure sports.
Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits was developed by Science North (Website) in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada (where you used to be able to trade in super cool things at a Nature Exchange station like bee’s nests and beaver teeth for points that you could “buy” other treasures with until one year they just stopped and everyone lost their points and I’m still mad about it), in partnership with the Ontario Science Centre. Access is included with general admission and free for OSC members. The exhibit will remain on display through January 3, 2027.
