The Art & History Museums of Maitland (Website) will open Vilomah, a new exhibition by 2023 artist-in-residence Soude Dadras (Instagram), on Friday, October 16, with the show running through January 3, 2027.
The museum is located at 231 W. Packwood Avenue [GMap] in Maitland. The exhibition’s title comes from a Sanskrit word describing an interruption of life’s expected order, and the show “gives shape to experiences of loss that are often hard to put into words,” according to the official press release.
The opening reception is free to the public and will include live music from DJ Spreadsheets, food truck fare, and a cash bar, with bar proceeds supporting A&H programs. Tickets for the regular show run range from $4 to $6.
The exhibition builds on A&H’s residency programs, which trace back to 1937, when architect and artist J. André Smith founded the Art Center and established the Bok Fellowship, named for patron Mary Curtis Bok. A&H revived the tradition in 2012 through its Studio Artist and Artist-in-Residence programs, continuing nearly 90 years of residency work at the site.
