As first reported by Logan Dragone for Orlando Business Journal, The Attic Door, a wine bistro on Plant Street in downtown Winter Garden, has been sold to James Larweth, founder and executive vice president of Anton RX, adding yet another business to the billionaire’s growing portfolio of downtown Winter Garden properties.
Owners Laurie and Kevin Tarter announced the sale on Facebook earlier this week, thanking their guests for years of business. The space has been open for the past 20 years, but was acquired by the couple in January 2019. According to their statement, Larweth intends to operate the business as is, at least for the immediate future, saying, “The best part of this transition is that the new owner plans to keep operations very similar to what you know and love. After seeing how Jim Larweth maintained the integrity and team at The Chef’s Table, we felt incredibly confident handing over the keys to this fourth owner of The Attic Door. We know he will respect the legacy of this space while adding his own positive touch in the years to come. Thank you, Winter Garden, for letting us be a part of your lives.”
The sale is the latest in a major consolidation of downtown Winter Garden real estate by Larweth-connected entities over the past several months. His purchases include the historic Edgewater Hotel at 99 W. Plant Street for $10.3 million, portions of the Bond Building at 2 W. Plant Street for $4 million, 100 W. Plant Street for $6.5 million, and most recently The Exchange at 270 W. Plant Street for $24.5 million; a three-story mixed-use building that houses Hangry Bison, Foxtail Coffee, and 11 other tenants.
Larweth has not publicly disclosed his plans for the portfolio. Winter Garden has been among the fastest-growing areas in Central Florida, with median household income rising about 40% between 2019 and 2024 to $120,365, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
