Suffering Bastard (Instagram), the speakeasy tiki bar inside Tuffy’s Bottle Shop (Website) in Sanford, will move to Mills 50 before the end of the year. Owners Arthur Booth and Julian Burgos are relocating the bar to 828 N. Mills Avenue [GMap], the former Balloon World space, which was purchased by Minesh Patel in 2022.
The move brings Suffering Bastard closer to Booth and Burgos’s other Mills 50 concepts, Death in the Afternoon (Instagram), their absinthe-focused bar, opened in late 2023 at 930 N. Mills Avenue [GMap], and Lorelei Wine Bar (Instagram), their fancy girls-who-brunch/Mediterranean-style wine bar with small plates, opened in spring 2025 at 737 N. Thornton Avenue [GMap].
Death in the Afternoon opened in September 2023 in the former Retromended Vintage space. The “friendly neighborhood absinthe house” offers a moody speakeasy atmosphere with stiff drinks. Lorelei Wine Bar features wines, small plates from Chef Eric Norvelus, and a patio for outdoor seating.
Booth and Burgos also previously operated Bitters & Brass, a bar in Sanford that has since closed.
No opening date has been announced for Suffering Bastard’s Mills 50 location beyond “before the end of the year.” The Sanford location will remain open until the move.
