The Orlando Science Center is hosting a Cosmic Upcycling Spacesuit Design Challenge and Fashion Show in 2026, and inviting participants to craft “spacesuit” costumes made from recycled materials and then showcase them on a runway.
Contestants are challenged to tap into their imaginations and use materials that would otherwise become waste, like busted umbrellas, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, old wires, basically anything that can transform into wearable art. The entries will be featured in a live fashion show at the Science Center, where the most inventive looks will be judged.
Categories are split into age groups, including 0-7, 8-12, 13-17, and 18+. Digital submissions are due by Sunday, January 4. Click HERE for more information and the design template. The top 12 designers will be notified by January 16 on when to build their suits for the runway show, which is scheduled for February 14.
There will also be Open Make sessions held at the Science Center’s Maker Space on December 20 and 21.
