The City of Sanford just announced that there will be no fireworks show tonight after a freak lightning strike this afternoon set off the fireworks ahead of schedule.
The Star Spangled Sanford event scheduled for Fort Mellon Park will continue as planned until 9 p.m. with live music, vendors, and more, so you can still stop by and have fun.
Sanford officials are asking that attendees refrain from bringing any personal fireworks to the event as unauthorized fireworks pose safety risks to the public and city staff … but we’ll bet you $5 that people will do it anyway.
