PROBLEM CORNER BEING FIXED
UPDATE: The contractor finished the operation ahead of schedule last night, and a ramp closure will not be needed tonight, Monday, January 26.
Motorists traveling eastbound on State Road 408 should expect overnight closures of the exit ramp to eastbound Interstate 4 at Exit 10B on Sunday night, January 25, and Monday night, January 26, as the Florida Department of Transportation continues work on a safety project at the downtown Orlando interchange (the one with the tight corner and the barricade full of gouges from cars that were going too fast).
FDOT said the ramp may close as early as 8 p.m. each night and is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning, with the final closure ending Tuesday morning, January 27. The overnight work is needed so crews can install a temporary barrier wall and add pavement markings that really hit you over the head that it’s a tight corner, and you could drop your phone if you don’t pay attention.
During the closures, drivers heading eastbound on State Road 408 who need to access eastbound Interstate 4 will be directed to take Exit 10A onto westbound Interstate 4, continue west to Exit 81 at Michigan Street, then turn left onto West Michigan Street and follow posted signage back to eastbound Interstate 4.
The overnight ramp closures are part of FDOT’s broader safety improvement project on the loop ramp from eastbound State Road 408 to eastbound Interstate 4. On the project page, FDOT says the work includes installing a new barrier wall, milling and resurfacing the roadway, adding pavement markings, and installing new speed signage to alert drivers to slow down on the ramp. The project is listed as a $1.2 million construction effort scheduled to start in early 2026 with an estimated completion in summer 2026.
FDOT said construction schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions, and drivers should reduce speed, follow posted signage, and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
