Prairie House Coffee Co. (Instagram | Website) has opened its second location at 2541 Coolidge Avenue [GMap] in College Park, just doors down from The Gnarly Cuban (Instagram). Sisters Jade Dinsdale and Alexa Maisonet, who hail from magical Manitoba in the Canadian Prairies, opened their first Prairie House Coffee location in September 2021 at 4 S. Tubb Street [GMap] in Oakland, in the town’s oldest building.
Prairie House Coffee Co. is inspired by the sisters’ grandmother’s house in the Canadian prairies, where family would gather after dinner to drink coffee, eat pastries, and socialize around the table – probably because there’s nothing else to do in Manitoba (I say as someone from Northern Ontario).
“They want you to feel like you’re just walking into somebody’s home when you go in there,” a representative told The Community Paper earlier this year about the roastery space. “That’s really important to us, that we make you feel very welcome whenever you’re in our space.”
The menu features light bites, gluten-free baked goods, and single-origin coffee. All menu items are gluten-free, and most are organic. Popular drinks include Taste of Autumn, which combines espresso, organic spices, and a choice of organic whole, oat, or macadamia milk. Customers can add chaga, an adaptogenic mushroom that grows on birch trees, to help lower stress in their bodies.
Prairie House sources coffee from Methodical Coffee in Greenville, South Carolina, which sources sustainably, and Downtown Credo, a local roaster that works directly with farmers.
Dinsdale has several certifications in holistic health coaching. Maisonet is a certified lactation counselor, certified birth doula, and hypno-doula who strives for holistic living. Both are West Orange County residents. Dinsdale lives in Gotha, and Maisonet in Ocoee.
