The Dome by Dr. Phillips Charities, the revamped CineDome venue at Orlando Science Center, will have a public premiere on Monday, June 1.
We got inside the space back in March while construction was still underway, and it was impressive then, but things have only improved since the visit. The finished product features eight Christie Griffyn projectors delivering 8K laser imagery, a 7.1 surround sound system with more than 30,000 watts of audio, 315 seats with improved sightlines, and a NanoSeam screen made up of 419 individual panels (yes, we asked why there weren’t 420). A new lobby has also been redesigned with an LED wall and fancy large-scale projection surfaces.
Updated programming in The Dome will include live planetarium shows, giant screen films, full dome educational presentations, and the return of the old laser light shows, and it all opens with a live planetarium experience exploring the skies above Orlando, which we snatched a clip of on our Instagram.
The project was funded through the Unlock Science Campaign, with support from Dr. Phillips Charities, Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Bert W. Martin Foundation, and The Magruder Foundation.
