Orlando Fire Chief Jason Revoldt has retired effective immediately, the city confirmed Tuesday, just six months after being sworn in as the department’s 22nd fire chief.
Revoldt submitted his retirement to the city on Tuesday. No reason was provided. Executive Deputy Chief Shannon Teamer will handle day-to-day operations during the transition.
As Orlando Shine previously reported, Revoldt was appointed interim chief in October 2025 following the resignation of Chief Charlie Salazar, who stepped down to return to Texas to be closer to family. Revoldt was then formally sworn in as the department’s permanent chief in January 2026. He had served the department for more than two decades in roles including arson and bomb commander, fire marshal, and interim chief.
The city offered no explanation for the abrupt departure. “We’re thankful for his leadership and his 24 years of service to our community,” a message sent to department employees said.
Revoldt’s tenure was short and turbulent. The Orlando Fire Department had its national accreditation revoked by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International for missing multiple required paperwork deadlines, a development OrlandoShine reported last fall, just days before Salazar’s resignation. The department is now posting for its third fire chief in less than a year, with a national search underway.
We hope he stays a while.
