New dog-friendly beach opening in Daytona this December

A new dog-friendly section of beach is opening soon in Daytona Beach, giving residents and visitors a dedicated space to enjoy the shoreline with their pets.

The 1.7-mile stretch, known as Daytona Dog Beach, will run between Williams Avenue and Seabreeze Boulevard and is expected to officially open on December 1, following approval from the Volusia Council earlier this year. The new area marks the first time in decades that dogs have been allowed on a public section of Daytona’s oceanfront.

The designated zone includes three vehicle access ramps, pedestrian access, and nearly 300 off-beach parking spaces. Dogs must remain on leashes no longer than six feet, and owners are required to clean up after their pets. The county has posted clear signage with the rules, and waste-bag dispensers are available along the beach access points. Dogs are not allowed in the dune areas or other protected wildlife zones.

The effort to open Daytona Dog Beach was led by the nonprofit Daytona Dog Beach, Inc., which helped fund things like waste stations and signage. The group has also pledged to assist with maintenance and volunteer cleanup events to keep the area safe and welcoming for both pets and people, and compliant with county code.
