The next Sort of Brutally Early series meetup, headed by local gadabout Pat Greene, will take place on Wednesday, November 19, with a special field trip to downtown Kissimmee to explore the Osceola Arts Murals. Participants will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the CityArts Café in downtown Orlando, then walk together to the Church Street SunRail Station to board the 7:50 a.m. train to Kissimmee.
Round-trip SunRail tickets cost $5.50 for adults and $2.75 for seniors and youth. First-time riders are encouraged to arrive early for help purchasing tickets. Once in Kissimmee, attendees will join Osceola Arts Public Art Coordinator Brian Camacho for a guided tour of the murals that have transformed the city’s downtown area into a sort of open-air gallery.
The tour will feature works such as Energy Flow by Don Rimx at Valencia College’s Kissimmee Campus, Fiesta Dancer by Noah Cook at 519 E. Vine Street, and Sunrise Reflections by Sabrina Shumaker on West Monument Avenue. Other artists featured in the Osceola Arts Public Murals Project include Deivi Sanchez, DreamWeaver, Natasha Callahan, Revel Artist, Shea Monahan, PJ Svejda, SKIP, Nicole Salgar, Carlos Morales, and several others.
Attendees can return to Orlando on the 10:53 a.m. train or stay longer in Kissimmee and take the 12:23 p.m. return. The Sort of Brutally Early series, usually held monthly at CityArts in the wee hours of the morning, brings together artists, curators, and community members for informal coffee-fueled meetups that highlight local art and culture.
