Job alert: Winter Park History Museum seeks new executive director, salary starts at $70,000

The Winter Park Historical Association is searching for a new executive director to lead the Winter Park History Museum (Website), following the departure of Christy Knobloch, who held the role since 2020.

The executive director serves as the organization’s chief executive, reporting to the board of directors and overseeing daily museum operations, fundraising, financial management, educational programming, community outreach and staff leadership. Duties include directing the museum manager, submitting grant applications to the City of Winter Park and the State of Florida, managing the annual budget, representing the museum in dealings with the city, and leading fundraising events including the annual gala.

Preferred qualifications include at least five years of museum or nonprofit management experience, a bachelor’s degree, knowledge of laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations, and experience in grant writing, museum administration, and event planning. The role requires occasional evening and weekend hours.

The position pays an annual salary that starts at $70,000 a year, according to the museum’s careers page. It is a full-time, exempt role with paid vacation, holiday, and sick days, along with a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to board@WPHistory.org. The application deadline is September 14.

More information on the executive director position is available HERE.

While the search continues, Dena Salas, formerly the museum’s administrator, has been promoted to museum manager and will serve as interim executive director. The museum reopens August 20 following the launch of its newest exhibit, “Golden Roots: The Citrus Legacy of Winter Park,” with a grand opening reception on August 19 at 5:30 p.m.
