Job Alert: Public Information Officer for Orange City

The City of Orange City (Website), bit redundant, is hiring a Public Information Officer (PIO) to lead its communications, media relations, and public engagement efforts. This full-time position oversees how the Orange City informs and interacts with residents, local businesses, and partner organizations, so we need someone in there who likes answering our late-night emails.

The PIO will manage all aspects of the city’s public information strategy, including press relations, social media content, website updates, and emergency communications. The role involves developing and executing campaigns that promote municipal programs, coordinating with department leaders, and ensuring the public receives clear, accurate, and timely information.

In addition to managing media and public outreach, the position will take a leading role in emergency communications, operating systems like Orange City’s civic engagement platform and alert networks to distribute critical information during emergencies. The PIO will also plan and promote city-hosted programs, building relationships with community groups and residents to strengthen public involvement.

The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, and have at least three years of experience in public or media relations, preferably in a government setting. Strong writing skills, knowledge of crisis communication, and experience managing social media and digital content are essential. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.

Applicants should be comfortable working under deadlines, attending evening and weekend events, and representing the City at community meetings.
