Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts (Website) has just announced “a new strategic investment in its future,” with the purchase of two parcels adjacent to its campus in downtown Orlando.
The properties, located at 42 E. Jackson Street [GMap] and 36 E. Jackson Street [GMap] behind the Grand Bohemian Hotel, were placed on the market by First United Methodist back in 2023. They currently host two buildings, which are connected by a second-floor crosswalk and served as the Wesley Early Learning and Family Center.
The Center paid $10.39 million for the properties, which comprise a combined total of 43,948 SF. According to their release, the Center will use the buildings for administrative uses and guest parking while future development plans are completed, but details on what exactly those plans are have not been made public at this time.
When the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts was originally planned in downtown Orlando, the master vision for the site included not only performance venues, but also a hotel and residential development as part of a broader mixed-use urban campus. The hotel and residential elements were always described as part of a long-range “Phase III” vision, subject to funding, land acquisition, and market feasibility.
At this time, it’s unclear if this recent property purchase is a renewed interest in pursuing those original goals or part of a new initiative.
