Central Florida Public Media (Website) is launching an emergency one-day fund drive this Friday, July 25, and calling on the community to step in as it transitions to being fully listener-supported.
Stations WMFE‑FM (90.7 FM in Orlando) and WMFV (89.5 FM in The Villages) will broadcast live fund‑drive programming from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., sharing stories of their work and explaining the critical role listener contributions now play in sustaining their mission.
This fundraising push comes in the wake of significant funding losses: nearly $400,000 in combined state and federal support has been eliminated, forcing Central Florida Public Media to rely entirely on local support for the first time.
Donations can be made on-air or through their website at cfpublic.org, where contributions at any level become part of the foundation that will sustain their storytelling, educational programming, and civic engagement initiatives across Central Florida .
A benefit concert is also being held at Will’s Pub and Lil’ Indies in the Mills 50 District on Sunday, August 10, from noon-6 p.m. featuring eight different bands: The Pauses, Virginity is Rad, Thrull, 430 Steps, Uber Crunch, NOTAM, Catnap, and Misspell. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds will go to the station. Kids under 12 can attend for free, but they’ll have to buy their own drinks.
