À La Cart City at Art2 (Website) in downtown Orlando is hosting a full Derby Day celebration on Saturday, May 2, and Orlando Shine is a proud media sponsor. The all-day event blends Kentucky Derby tradition with craft beer, food trucks, fashion, and hobby horse racing.
The main feature of the event will be the Hobby Horse Racing Tournament, kicking off at 4 p.m. Sixteen participants will compete in a bracket-style tournament with heats of four racers, with the top two from each heat advancing toward the finals. Entry is $15 and includes a guaranteed spot to chill during the event and a complimentary beverage. Every race will be livestreamed on À La Cart’s massive LED wall.
At 6 p.m., the Best Dressed Contest, presented in partnership with Orlando Shine, will take over. Awards go to Best Female, Best Male, and Best Couple. Derby fashion is encouraged, so think big hats and bold colors.
At 6:57 p.m., the LED wall will switch to the live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby itself.
Food and drink specials run all day. À La Cart’s craft beer bar and its rotating lineup of local food trucks will be on hand throughout.
