Seven-time GRAMMY winner Marvin “Smitty” Smith plays Timucua this month

Timucua Arts Foundation (Website) will host GRAMMY-winning drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith and his octet on Friday, September 18, with a drum clinic in the afternoon followed by two performances.

Smith leads an afternoon drum clinic at 3 p.m., with full octet (eight people) performances following at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $10, with both in-person and livestream options available. Discounted tickets are offered for Timucua members, students, teachers, frontline workers, veterans, and seniors. So many discounts.

Smith has won seven GRAMMY Awards (such a big deal, it’s all in caps) and recorded on more than 350 albums throughout his career, performing alongside artists like Sting, Dave Holland, Sonny Rollins, Willie Nelson, and Steve Coleman. He was also the drummer for “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” band, led by Kevin Eubanks, from 1995 until the show ended in 2009.
