PHOTO VIA CENTRAL FLORIDA ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDENS

The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens (Website) was evacuated Sunday afternoon after receiving a bomb threat.

Zoo staff immediately evacuated all remaining guests and staff upon receiving the threat. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office responded to secure the premises and conducted an inspection, but ultimately deemed the threat not credible.

The zoo will operate with standard summer hours Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In a statement, the zoo said “the safety of our staff, guests, and animal residents is always our top priority, and we will continue to follow our protocols to ensure the Zoo is a safe and fun place for all.” You can read their full statement below.

The Central Florida Zoo is located in Sanford along Lake Monroe. The 106-acre facility opened at its current location in 1975 and became accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in 1986.
