Orlando Pirates win first game on the road

The Orlando Pirates (Instagram | Website) opened their inaugural season representing The City Beautiful with a 41–38 comeback win over the New Mexico Chupacabras on Sunday, March 22, at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque.

Running back Pooka Williams was the MVP (according to us) of the game, scoring four touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from two yards out late in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Paxton DeLaurent made his first professional start, completing 17 of 20 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.

Another highlight was when Dante Wright returned a missed 53-yard field goal attempt at 58 yards for a touchdown, which (according to a press release issued last week) is the longest return in Pirates history.

The Pirates are now 1–0 and have a week before their first-ever home game on Sunday, April 5, at 4 p.m. at the Kia Center against the Quad City Steamwheelers. Tickets are available HERE for purchase.
