Universal Studios Florida has officially retired its Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, choosing to close the music-blasting coaster to “make way for a new experience.”
The last rides rolled earlier this week on August 18, ending a 16-year run for the steel coaster, which first opened to guests in 2009. Universal has not yet announced what will replace the attraction.
Rip Ride Rockit was known for its dramatic vertical lift, with speeds reaching near 65 mph, and a choose-your-own-soundtrack gimmick that even hid a “secret playlist” for in-the-know fans.
Universal says only that a “new experience” is on the way, while permitting breadcrumbs have fueled speculation about a fresh coaster concept taking over the footprint.
