The UCF Knights launch their 2025 campaign on Thursday, August 28, when they host Jacksonville State at the Acrisure Bounce House. This marks the first game under returning head coach Scott Frost, who begins his second stint leading the program, and he’s hoping to rebuild after a 4–8 finish in 2024.
At quarterback, Frost has named Florida Atlantic transfer Cam Fancher (Instagram) as the starter. Backup options include Jacurri Brown and Tayven Jackson, but Fancher’s familiarity with game management allegedly gives him the edge heading into Big 12 competition.
In the backfield, running backs Myles Montgomery and Jaden Nixon are expected to pick up the slack following the departure of star rusher RJ Harvey.
Expecting UCF to begin strongly, Underdog Dynasty (Website) forecasts a 35–21 win over Jacksonville State in Week 1, citing the team’s historical dominance in its Thursday-night “First Bounce” openers. Looking ahead, preseason projections, including one from College Football News via Yahoo, suggest UCF could reach six wins this season, with challenges in conference play likely limiting their upside.
According to online chatter, UCF’s 2025 season hinges on how quickly Frost can revive the team’s culture, how well the offense, and particularly the ground game, performs, and whether Grinch’s defense finds consistency.
