Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA Hall of Famer and global sports personality, is returning to Orlando once again, behind the DJ booth. Performing under his stage name DJ Diesel (Instagram), O’Neal will headline at The Vanguard (Website) on August 29, bringing his bass-heavy electronic sets to downtown Orlando.
O’Neal’s foray into music is not new. During his basketball career in the 1990s, he recorded four studio albums, with his debut, Shaq Diesel, in 1993, which earned platinum certification. After retiring from the NBA, O’Neal rekindled his passion for music by turning to EDM, saying that DJing gives him the same adrenaline rush he once felt on the court.
Since then, O’Neal has steadily built a presence on the global DJ circuit. As DJ Diesel, he has performed at major festivals including Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo, and Lost Lands. He also curates Shaq’s Fun House, a touring event that combines carnival attractions with festival-scale DJ lineups.
