The Orlando Firefighters Hockey Club hosted its annual Guns ‘n’ Hoses fundraiser at the Kia Center on Saturday, April 11, pitting the Orlando Fire Department against the Orlando Police Department in a charity hockey game. Orlando Shine photographer Cole Ditzel was there to capture it all ahead of the Orlando Solar Bears game against Savannah.

The Orlando Fire Department won the game, and together the event raised over $5,400 to support families of first responders killed in the line of duty.

The club has been doing this since 1998 and has helped more than 100 families over that time. Team captain and OFD Lieutenant Asher Blumenthal said their mission is to support anyone affected by a line-of-duty death. “Our club’s mission is to lift the fallen, which means anybody affected by a line-of-duty death. Police, fire, any type of first responder,” Blumenthal said. “So, we try to give back directly to the families affected.”
