"UNITY ART SPACESUIT" VIA NASA AND SPACE FOR ART FOUNDATION
A new exhibition at Orlando Science Center (Website) is now on display in Fusion: A STEAM Gallery, which brings together artwork created by astronauts, NASA scientists, and young artists from around the world. The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Space for Art Foundation and Space for a Better World and will run through April 4, 2026.
Curated by astronaut and artist Nicole Stott (Instagram), the exhibition highlights how art and science intersect in space exploration. Stott founded the Space for Art Foundation (Website) to encourage creative expression among children from diverse backgrounds, and several works created through the program have even traveled to the International Space Station.
The central feature of the exhibition is the BEYOND art spacesuit (pictured above), a wearable installation made up of more than 800 pieces of artwork created by children from 192 countries. The suit was assembled by ILC Dover Astrospace, the manufacturer of NASA’s EVA spacesuits, and was created during the COVID-19 pandemic as a symbol of global unity.
The exhibition is paired with a Spacesuit Design Challenge that invites visitors to create wearable spacesuits using recycled materials. Hands-on sessions will be held December 20 and 21 in the Hive: A Makerspace, with finished designs later showcased during the Spacesuit Fashion Show at Spark STEM Fest on February 14. Space for Art is included with general admission and is located on Level 3 of the Orlando Science Center.
