Soggy week ahead: Orlando area faces rain and flooding risk through Thursday

Central Florida is staring down several days of heavy rain, with 3 to 5 inches possible this week and a risk of minor flooding through Thursday, October 8, according to forecasts reported Tuesday.

A stalled front is keeping deep moisture over the region, with moisture levels near record highs for October, according to science-reading weather people who know more than we do. Rain is expected in repeated rounds, not a single storm, almost like a car wash. Tuesday carries an 80 to 90 percent chance of rain, with 70 to 80 percent chances Wednesday and Thursday. Our friends at FOX 35 said some areas could see 6 inches or more. Which is definitely more than average. For rainfall.

Central Florida is under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall, with minor flooding expected on roads and in low-lying areas. WFTV said heavy downpours may lead to localized flooding and ponding on roads, along with reduced visibility.

Rain that keeps returning gives low-lying streets, retention ponds and yards little time to drain between rounds. Drivers should be ready for standing water and slow visibility, and avoid driving through flooded roads. Sanford already saw some flash flooding earlier this week.
