OCLS hosting African American Read-In on February 15

Orange County Library System (Website) will host its annual African American Read-In on Sunday, February 15, at 2 p.m. at the Orlando Public Library’s Melrose Center. It’s a free, family-centered program that will feature readings and performances of African American literature, poetry, and music.

The event is presented in conjunction with the 36th Annual National African American Read-In and will bring a mix of local media figures, elected officials, authors, and performers to the stage to share works by their favorite African American writers and artists.

Renita Hunt, an empowerment speaker and marketing communications exec, will serve as emcee for the event. Scheduled participants include U.S. Congressman Maxwell Frost, Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, saxophonist Don Black, Central Florida Public Media Morning Edition host Talia Blake, Orlando City Commissioner Bakari Burns, Newbery Award-winning author Jerry Craft, Central Florida Public Media News Director and Managing Editor LaToya Dennis, Spectrum News 13 evening anchor Curtis McCloud, Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell, Orisirisi African Folklore, musician Ravon Rhoden, Orange County Commissioner Michael Scott, and OCLS storyteller Crystal Sullivan.
