Actor Kurt Russell will serve as the honorary pace car driver for the 2026 Daytona 500 (Website), leading the field during the opening pace laps at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, February 15. Country music star Miranda Lambert will perform during the pre-race concert.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be named the honorary pace car driver for this year’s Daytona 500,” Russell said in a press release. “I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a race car.”

Daytona International Speedway said 74-year-old Russell’s appearance is tied to his current work on the second season of the Apple TV+ series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” which premieres on Friday, February 27. Previous celebrity pace car drivers have included Alan Ritchson, Vince Vaughn, and Frankie Muniz.

The news was announced on January 26 on FOX, during the NFC championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.
