Job Alert: Assistant Director at Harry P. Leu Gardens

The City of Orlando is hiring an Assistant Director for Harry P. Leu Gardens (Website), the 50-acre public garden that welcomes 300,000 visitors each year. The role oversees daily operations and serves as a key partner to the Executive Director.

The position manages core operational departments, including guest services and sales, facilities management, financial administration, human resources, and administrative systems. Core responsibilities include overseeing staff management, customer service, budgeting, and financial oversight.

The city lists the pay range at $43.11 to $54.97 per hour.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in organizational management, hospitality, or a related field, plus four years of administrative experience in a management role. Preferred qualifications include experience in cultural attractions, event venues, public gardens, or museums. Familiarity with enterprise systems such as Workday, Altru, and Microsoft Office Suite is expected.

Harry P. Leu Gardens was donated to the City of Orlando in 1961 by Harry P. and Mary Jane Leu, who developed one of the Southeast’s largest camellia collections on their private estate. The gardens now feature 30 plant collections, educational programming, seasonal events, and public exhibitions. The campus includes the Historic Leu House Museum, built in 1888 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, along with extensive gardens and a 22,000 SF Welcome Center and event venue.

Leu Gardens also unveiled early-stage plans and renderings for a major expansion last fall.
