How to (correctly) get rid of your Christmas tree in Orlando

Orlando residents who still have a natural Christmas tree can get rid of it curbside this month through the city’s regular yard waste pickup.

The city says trees should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your scheduled yard waste day, with all decorations removed, including ornaments, hooks, tinsel, and lights. If your tree is taller than six feet, you should cut it in half before setting it out so it can be collected properly.

To be clear. Here are some ways you definitely shouldn’t get rid of your trees:

  • Burning it in the backyard -trees burn like jet fuel, and you’re going to lose your waxed mustache.
  • Yeeting it into a lake – swans already have it tough right now. Keep your pine corpse to yourself.
  • Leaving it on the curb … in July – That’s not a Christmas tree. That’s an artifact. And you’re gross.
  • Stuffing it in the trash chute.
  • Launching it off your balcony – we’re looking at you, 55 West.

The city is also asking residents not to throw away old or tangled holiday lights. Instead, Orlando is offering a lights recycling drop-off at a yellow bin located at 1028 Woods Avenue [GMap], available from Dec. 26 through Jan. 19.
