The Majesty Building in Altamonte Springs is hard to miss. The 18-story tower sits just off Interstate 4, and for many Central Floridians, it’s become less a landmark and more a running joke, regularly described as the “eyesore on I-4” because it has spent decades looking unfinished.
Construction began in the early 2000s, with a completion date that was originally supposed to arrive long ago. Instead, the building has moved forward in fits and starts, largely because its owner, the religious television station WACX (SuperChannel 55), has said it wanted to build without taking on debt, relying on donations and available funds rather than conventional financing. ClickOrlando reported last year that donor support dropped sharply after the Great Recession, and that shifts in the station’s funding sources also contributed to the prolonged slowdown.
In recent years, there have been occasional signs of movement. Altamonte Springs officials have said the exterior, landscaping, and the parking garage are close to complete, while the interior remains largely a shell. In mid-2025, both FOX 35 and ClickOrlando reported that the city was hearing about potential tenant interest and early steps to build out lower-floor space, but the reports also made clear that there’s still no firm, full-building completion timeline, especially for the upper floors.
That long pause is a big part of why the building draws so much frustration. WESH summed it up pretty well in a recent segment: it’s not that the building itself is uniquely ugly, it’s the fact that it’s been taking so long to finish.
So, we got a closer look at things.
