Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts (Website) will bring back its Frontyard Holiday Festival, fueled by AdventHealth funds, transforming the Frontyard and Seneff Arts Plaza into a free holiday destination from November 27 through December 31.
The festival is part of the center’s push to expand free programming in the Frontyard space. “This festival is part of our vision to create more free experiences in the Frontyard, one of the 1,000 annual free events planned as part of our master plan,” Kathy Ramsberger, president and CEO of Dr. Phillips Center, said in a prepared statement that just popped into our inbox. “These events are designed to bring our community together while creating new opportunities that attract visitors and contribute to Orlando’s vibrant tourism economy,” likely hoping that the Comptroller’s office is listening ahead of divvying up those TDT dollars.
This year’s festival will feature live entertainment, themed nights, sexy firepits, holiday movie screenings, seasonal food and drinks, nightly artificial snowfall, light displays and performances from local artists and community groups, and more scented pine mulch than you can shake a candy cane at. The festival will also bring back what organizers describe as the only transportable carillon in North America, an instrument built from nearly four tons of bronze bells. That’s a lot of bells.
Inside the arts center, a separate ticketed lineup called Celebrate the Holidays at Dr. Phillips Center will run throughout the season, featuring Lindsey Stirling, “The Nutcracker,” Vienna Light Orchestra, Irish Christmas in America, Straight No Chaser and A Very Broadway Christmas, along with more unconventional shows including “The Unauthorized Hallmarkish Parody” and “Adam Biner: A Jewish Boy’s Love Letter to Christmas.” The full ticketed lineup is available on the center’s website.
