ORLANDO SHINE IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF THIS YEAR’S FLORIDA FILM FESTIVAL
The Florida Film Festival (Website) returns to Enzian Theater (Website) in Maitland for its 35th edition, running April 10–19. This year’s lineup spans 161 films from 31 countries, including 31 narrative features, 18 documentary features, and 112 short films, with 24 world premieres.
The festival opens Friday, April 10, with a happy hour mixer with filmmakers and film fans, a red carpet entrance, and a screening of Adam Carter Rehmeier’s road trip film Carolina, Caroline, starring Kyle Gallner and Samara Weaving. The film follows a small-time hustler (Kyle Gallner, Strange Darling, Smile) who becomes entangled with Caroline (Samara Weaving, Over Your Dead Body, Ready or Not) and follows them as their spontaneous romance gives way to deeper tensions, ambition, and competition. Rehmer will also be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.
The new Centerpiece slot on April 15 goes to Jorma Taccone’s dark comedy Over Your Dead Body, featuring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis. Closing Night on April 19 is a 75th Anniversary screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train.
The two “An Evening With…” events this year feature Paul Giamatti (April 12, following a screening of Sideways) and Judge Reinhold (April 17, following Fast Times at Ridgemont High).
Notable titles in the lineup include new films from Steven Soderbergh (The Christophers), Gregg Araki (I Want Your Sex), Ben Wheatley (Normal), and Maude Apatow’s directorial debut, Poetic License. Documentary highlights include The Dads, executive produced by Dwyane Wade; First They Came for My College about the takeover of New College of Florida; and If These Walls Could Rock, a history of the Sunset Marquis Hotel featuring Slash, Springsteen, Dave Grohl, and others.
The festival will close with a special 75th Anniversary screening of Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, on Sunday, April 19. It’s about two strangers who meet on a train and convince each other to exchange murder targets.
