Mead Botanical Garden in Winter Park is hosting a free, family-friendly celebration on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m., in honor of National Public Lands Day.
The event will feature a variety of activities for all ages: guided and self-guided tours through the garden’s trails and natural habitats; yoga and Tai Chi sessions; a tree giveaway from the City of Winter Park’s Urban Forestry department; a story walk for families brought to you by the Winter Park Library; presentations by groups including Audubon Center for Birds of Prey; and children’s nature-inspired activities.
National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort devoted to public lands in the United States. Held annually on the fourth Saturday in September since 1994, it’s coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation together with federal, state, and local partners. It’s a day for people to help restore, preserve, and appreciate the parks, gardens, trails, reserves, and green spaces that are public resources. In many locations across the country, including places like national parks, free admission is offered, and volunteers help with projects such as trail maintenance, litter removal, planting trees, and educating the public.
