Austin’s Coffee moves forward with new location and ownership shake-up

After more than two decades of supporting Orlando’s grassroots arts and comedy scene, Winter Park institution Austin’s Coffee (Website) is reopening under a new address and new co-ownership. The beloved café at 929 W. Fairbanks Avenue [GMap] is relocating to 2240 W. Fairbanks Avenue [GMap], Winter Park, following the city’s decision to acquire the original site for road infrastructure improvements.

According to Orlando Weekly, comedian Preacher Lawson (Website), known from a stint on America’s Got Talent, has stepped in as a silent investor to help preserve the venue’s legacy and ensure its famous Sunday open-mic tradition continues. He joins new co-owners Angela and Richard Whitmer, who helped rally support when the lease on the original spot was set to expire on October 31, 2025.

The new team, under the Austin’s Coffee banner, promises the same community-driven vibe: local comedians, open-mic nights, and an atmosphere where artists feel at home. While the building may change, patrons say the spirit of Austin’s will remain intact. As one regular put it, “The longest-running open mic in Orlando gets to continue in a new location. New building, same night, same energy or better.”

The last day of business at the original location is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, with a soft opening of the new location scheduled for November 1.
