Orlando Science Center’s adults-only Science Night Live returns Aug. 22

Orlando Science Center (Website) will host its next Science Night Live event on Saturday, August 22, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. The 18-and-up program lets adults explore the science center’s exhibits without children present. Because kids ruin everything.

Tickets are $25 for the general public, with members able to attend for $5. Tickets are only available online in advance and are not sold at the door.

The evening’s featured presentation, “Beyond Earth: Taking Arts & Culture to Space,” begins at 8:30 p.m. in the Digital Adventure Theater. Natasha Tsakos, founder of Space Wonders, will discuss her work developing PARABOLES, a multimedia performance choreographed in microgravity in partnership with the MIT Space Exploration Initiative. The keynote is presented in partnership with the Stephen W. Hawking Center for Microgravity Research and Education and will be followed by a discussion between Tsakos and Dr. Phil Metzger, the center’s director, along with an audience Q&A. Check out the trailer below.

Also featured is Myth Lab, an interactive live journalism program presented in partnership with Central Florida Public Media. Journalists Brendan Byrne, Molly Duerig and Joe Mario Pedersen will lead guests through a real-time myth-busting process focused on health, space and environmental claims, running from 8:30 to 11 p.m.

The Dome will host a 90’s rock-themed laser light show at 9:15, 10:15, and 11:15 p.m., with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Other activities include the traveling exhibit PHENOMENA: The Exhibition, focused on the science of illusions and perception; Curtis Earth Trivia at the 4Roots Cafe; hands-on demonstrations throughout the center’s four exhibit levels; close-up encounters with ocean and swamp creatures; signature cocktails and mocktails; local artist vendors; and telescope stargazing.
